Teen Homestead Program

Who said Little House on The Prarie was an outmoded concept? It's alive and well at CRF!

This is an exciting new pilot program for teens looking for a challenge.

Two of our beloved experienced staff members, Uncle Mud and Martin, will be the lead staff and guide the process.

A small group of campers and staff (capped at 15) will live independently in our upper pasture for a one week session. This is a camper driven program that will be guided by staff. "Homesteaders" will work to develop the site just as 19th century homesteaders would have done. Then, when they choose, they will come down into main camp and participate in activities with the general camp program.

Homesteaders will help build an authentic Appalchian style hand hewn log cabin. They will cook for themselves and sleep in tents until the cabin is finished. They will problem solve and work as unit to solve other real life challenges related to food, water and basic necessities. They may decide to establish a garden, raise animals and build other necessary structures.
